Allergy Clinic Referrals and Costs
Roberts Allergy Clinic is for the benefit of patients seeking a private medical opinion and charges apply. You may self refer to the clinic but it is always helpful to have a referral letter from your own doctor. Information on your medical treatments and previous allergy testing is particularly important.
A referral letter is essential if you are intending to make claim on your medical insurance policy. Please be aware that some insurers will not cover consultations to allergy specialists.
It is good medical practice to communicate results and recommendations to your doctor after the consultation and I will always do this unless you request complete confidentiality.
All written information that I keep is available to you, in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

Risks of Allergy Tests and Treatments
Glenthorn Medical is a fully equipped medical and dental surgery.
Resuscitation equipment and drug treatment is immediately available in the unlikely event of a medical emergency.
Allergy Skin Prick Tests are completely safe and well tolerated by patients of all ages. I have very rarely encountered patients who experience faint sensations or a funny turn, as might be expected with any medical procedure. This is not an allergic reaction and does not need any treatment, as the sensation is only temporary. The same advice applies to blood tests.
Oral provocation tests with foods are associated with the risk of provoking a serious allergic reaction. I am unwilling to perform these tests outside hospital premises.
Subcutaneous Desensitisation Immunotherapy is a highly specialised procedure that is only available in a few hospital clinics in the UK. Recommendations on referral to these clinics can be made where appropriate.
Sublingual Desensitisation Immunotherapy can cause a mild and temporary allergic response that is dose-dependant. First treatments should be supervised by an allergist with access to emergency treatments. I am pleased to be able to offer this service.
