Roberts Allergy Clinic Allergy Facts

Please read before you make your appointment with Roberts Allergy Clinic

Allergies are caused by an excessive reaction in the body’s immunity system towards naturally occurring substances in the environment, and to some man-made chemicals and drugs.

There are 4 types of allergic reaction of which Type 1 is the most frequent and worrying. Symptoms occur immediately after exposure and can be life-threatening for some individuals. National guidelines recommend that they should be assessed by an Allergy Specialist.

Type 1 allergies are diagnosed by conventional medical tests on blood and skin.

Probably Allergy

Illnesses such as Asthma, Hay Fever, Conjunctivitis, Eczema, Urticaria, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Food Intolerance, and Baby Colic are often linked to Type 1 allergies. Roberts Allergy Clinic offers an allergy diagnostic service to help you manage these conditions better.

Allergy Unlikely

There is a long list of other medical conditions where allergy is sometimes suspected but rarely shown to be of any importance. This list includes Migraine Headache, Moodiness, Behaviour changes, Sleep Disorders, General tiredness, Arthritis, Epilepsy, and Sexual difficulties. Scientifically proven allergy tests can help to rule out an allergic basis for these symptoms. Roberts Allergy Clinic does not offer alternative or unproven methods of allergy testing.

Probably Irritant Reactions

Irritants can affect taste, touch, or smell. Examples of irritant reactions are smoke in the eyes, unpleasant smells, and strong chemicals on the skin. Irritant reactions can easily be confused with true allergies but they do not respond to allergy treatments. There are no satisfactory tests for irritant reactions.

If in doubt please consult your GP if you think you may need an allergy test.
