Information About Dr Roberts, MB ChB, MD, MRCP, FRCPCH
My career has combined an interest in allergies with an NHS hospital appointment in paediatrics and child health. I have been Consultant Paediatrician at Wythenshawe Hospital in South Manchester from 1982 until my recent retirement from hospital work in 2009.
During this time I have looked after children and their families with allergic illnesses in a specialist Allergy Clinic, one of the largest in the Northwest region, attracting patients from all over the country and specifically Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Derbyshire, and North Wales.
There are only a few Allergy Clinics in the NHS and a large unmet medical need for patients with allergic problems. My strong personal interest in the speciality of allergy together with the awareness of this unmet need are the reasons why I have decided to continue to provide an allergy service.
I have been interested in allergic disease since my medical training in Oxford and at the Institute of Child Health in London and was awarded a Medical Doctorate for my research in experimental allergy in 1982.
More recent research has focused on the problems caused by food allergies.

The British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology (www.bsaci.org) is the national association for allergy specialists in the UK. I have been an active member of the organisation for many years and contributed to the development of guidelines for patients with allergies. At the annual clinical meetings I have presented studies on food allergy and asthma in 1998 and 2004.
